To prune or not to prune!

The objective of pruning is to produce strong, healthy, attractive plants. By understanding how, when and why to prune you can ensure the well being your tree.
The main reasons for pruning trees include safety, health, and aesthetics. Pruning for safety involves removing branches that could fall and cause injury or property damage, trimming branches that interfere with lines of sight on streets or driveways, and removing branches that grow into utility lines. Safety pruning may be largely avoided by carefully choosing species that will not grow beyond the space available to them, and have strength and form characteristics that are suited to the site.

Improper pruning or pruning at the wrong time of year can result in misshapen plants, reduced flowering or plants that are more likely to be damaged by insects, diseases or winter cold.

These and other critical pre-pruning considerations are a part of a larger systematic approach that we adopt at Arbortek.  High-quality tree pruning has been the cornerstone of Arbortek’s residential and commercial tree care service. Our standards of pruning, provided by our trained experts, will improve the health, quality, appearance and the value of your trees.

"If you plant a tree today on the west side of your home, in 5 years your energy bills should be 3% less. In 15 years the savings will be nearly 12%." —Dr. E. Greg McPherson, Center for Urban Forest Research
